More and more people are feeling the stress of family, job, and personal commitment. The workplace is becoming more crowded, noisier, and the energy is becoming more fearful. People wonder if they will have a job next month, if they can afford food and shelter. They do not feel safe. In this atmosphere of change, it is sometimes difficult to maintain peaceful relationships with family and friends. It becomes more difficult to maintain peace with oneself. The relaxing energy of Reiki can help you to deal with these situations in a more centred fashion. Relationships can become a joy once more. Emotional reactions such as fear and anger can be reduced or eliminated.
Reiki is pronounced 'Ray kee'. The name means Universal Life Force. According to Mr. Doi, president of the Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai in Japan, "Reiki is the vibration of "Love, Harmony, and Healing" emanating from the universe." Mikao Usui - a lay Buddhist from Japan who was searching for enlightenment, founded Reiki. As a by-product of attaining his goal of enlightenment, healing energy began flowing from his hands. Usui Sensei called this healing energy "Usui-Do". He taught and practiced in Japan for the next four years, until his death. His students then continued his work. From there, Usui-Do, or Reiki, made its way to the West. There are many versions of the original story being put forth. Through contact with Japanese Reiki Masters, we are learning more of the history and techniques as employed by Usui Sensei.
Reiki is a hands - on or over the body energy transference. The Reiki treatment is a non-invasive experience that can be done in person or as distance healing. There are three levels of Reiki in the method that I practice and teach. The first level works on the physical body. The second level works on the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. Third level or Masters level, allows one to open others to the wonderful energy flow. The practitioner receives an attunement that opens her/him to the Reiki energy. She is then able to provide the energy for others. Once attuned, you can also give Reiki energy to yourself.
When done in person, the client would lie on a therapy table fully clothed, and allow the energy to flow into her body. The practitioner receives this universal life force energy and allows you to access it through her hands. When you have received enough energy, you will stop drawing it. You may feel heat, tingles or other sensations during the treatment. It can be a very spiritual experience as well as a healing one. Reiki can also be done as a distance treatment starting with first level.
The Reiki energy is especially compatible with the cells of the body and promotes healing at this level. It complements any other treatment you may be receiving. It relieves pain of headaches, arthritis, and sore muscles. It reduces the aftereffects of chemotherapy and helps us to cope with the stresses of business, home and relationships. It enhances balance and harmony in life, and just plain feels good!
I am a Reiki Master in the Usui, Komyo and Tera Mai styles of Reiki. I teach Reiki classes on a regular basis. Classes are small for maximum participation and attention to students. Please check the schedule page for dates. Private classes are available on request.
The second Thursday of each month we have a Healing Circle. This is a group
that meets to share experiences, ask questions, and give healing to ourselves
and others who might need it. Anyone with first level Reiki or higher, or
the Learning Path Integrated Technique is welcome to join us. Please call
Diane at 416.690.6336 or email
to register.
The secret of health for both mind and body is not
to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate
troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.
